A chilly reception at Colchester Hospital
By Den Heslop on 01/05/2009
14:15pm Just two hours after the Gazette contacted the PCT for their comments and a statement about the impending article, Ria arrived at Colchester Hospital as instructed to get bloods drawn for a number of tests that had been sanctioned by our friendly biochemist Catherine Street.
The nurses were very pleasant as always but, after a phone call to haematology, they suggested we would have to wait for five minutes. Fifty minutes later we were invited into a side room to talk with the Director of Haematology and the Manager of Emergency Medicines. They announced that, for reasons un-stated, they were unable to do any blood tests today and that we would receive a letter tomorrow explaining why. We were offered a telephone number in order to contact our old friend Mike Cable who would apparently be willing to leave his important meeting (wonder what that's about?), but we politely refused.
After a short silence I had to request them to open the door to enable Ria’s wheelchair through whilst we exchanged a few niceties regarding the weather.
We wonder what all that was about???
